ASME SA213 TP347H ASTM A213 TP347 TP347H Stainless Steel Tubes

TP347 / TP347H is a stabilized austenitic stainless steel designed for high-temperature service. Key features include:

  • High-Temperature Strength: Resists creep and oxidation up to 800°C (1472°F).
  • Stabilization with Niobium (Nb): Minimizes carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to oxidation, sulfidation, and chloride stress corrosion.
  • Weldability: Suitable for most welding methods but requires post-weld stabilization.

ASME SA213 TP347H Applications

  • Boiler superheaters/reheaters in power plants. (Bolier Tubes)
  • Heat exchangers and refinery tubing in petrochemical industries. (Heat Exchanger Tubes)
  • High-temperature piping in nuclear reactors.
  • Aerospace exhaust systems.

Related Grades

  • EN 1.4961 (European equivalent)
  • ASTM A312 TP347H (seamless pipe standard)
  • UNS S34709 (Unified Numbering System).

Heat Treatment

  • Solution Annealing: 1050–1150°C (1922–2102°F), followed by rapid cooling (water/quenching).
  • Stabilization Annealing: Optional at 850–950°C (1562–1742°F) for 2–4 hours to enhance intergranular corrosion resistance.

Precautions for Use

  1. Avoid Sensitization: Prolonged exposure to 425–860°C (797–1580°F) may cause carbide precipitation.
  2. Welding: Use low-carbon filler materials (e.g., ER347) and post-weld stabilization annealing.
  3. Chloride Exposure: Limit use in chloride-rich environments to prevent stress corrosion cracking.
  4. Thermal Cycling: Ensure proper support to mitigate thermal fatigue.
  5. Inspection: Regular NDT (e.g., ultrasonic testing) for high-pressure applications.
